Frequently Asked Questions

Do film crews need a visa for Argentina?

Yup, for filming in Argentina, you'll need what's called a technical/professional visa. No worries, though – we've got all the necessary paperwork squared away. We're officially registered with RENURE, and we can easily provide you with the invitation letter required by the Argentine embassy/consulate in your country. We do this through the government's TAD online platform.

So, what's the good news? The whole process is pretty straightforward and hassle-free. At Fixer Argentina, we've got your back every step of the way, and we'll keep in the loop about how everything is progressing.

How do I bring film equipment and props into Argentina?

Argentina doesn't play ball with the ATA carnet system. That means, if your equipment is worth more than $5000 USD, you're gonna need to go for a TEMPORARY IMPORT route. But don't sweat it; we've got this whole process down pat, and it's the only legit way to make sure your gear breezes through customs without a hitch when your crew touches down.

Now, let's talk about paperwork. This part takes a minimum of three working days, so plan ahead. Here's what you'll need to get the ball rolling:

  • Passports of all your crew members.
  • The name of the lucky soul on your crew who's responsible for all that precious equipment.
  • Flight tickets (we know you've got those).
  • Hotel bookings (yep, we need those too).
  • A kit list, in good Excel format, with all the details. We're talking values, serial numbers, and the exact number of cases and bags with your gear. That's both the stuff you're carrying on and the things you're checking in.

Now, here's the part you're probably wondering about - the cost. It depends on how much your gear is worth and how many bags and cases you've got. The total fee includes the IMTE customs guarantee fee and the broker fee for handling things both in and out.

Here's how it all plays out on the ground:

  • When you arrive, our trusty customs broker will have all your documents ready to roll. They'll be your guide through the customs control maze.
  • When it's time to say adios, you can't check in for your flight until your gear gets the green light from both the broker and customs.

Now, a little heads-up for all you journo and news crew folks:
If your equipment is on the lighter side, with a value declared at no more than $5000 USD, you can skip the whole temporary import rigmarole. Just in case customs gives you the side-eye at the airport, we've got your back. We can smooth things over by signing a 1860A customs form, making us your legal guardian for the gear. Easy peasy, right?

Do we need special permits for filming in Argentina?

In Argentina, we like to keep things easy-breezy when it comes to filming in public areas, especially if you've got a smaller crew. As local producers, we've got a year-round filming permit issued by the Buenos Aires City authorities (BASET). This golden ticket lets us shoot in public spaces all across Buenos Aires.

Now, there are a few ground rules. It's all good as long as we're not causing any traffic cuts – no cables, generators, or streetlight takeovers. Oh, and our trusty fixer will have that permit on them at all times and will be right there during the shoot, keeping an eye on things. The best part? No extra fee! We've got it all covered in the fixer rate.

But hey, if your project calls for a bigger production, we've got your back. We can hook you up with additional permits, and the cost won't break the bank – it's pretty reasonable. We're all registered with BASET authorities, making the whole process a breeze.

When it comes to places like train stations, cemeteries, public buildings, market halls, public transport, or national and provincial parks, we're gonna need those special permits. But don't fret; just check in with us, and we'll make sure you're all set.

Lastly, when you're dealing with private property and locations, there might be some standard requirements like accident and liability insurance, and sometimes, a little fee. We'll handle all those details for you.

How's the health and safety scene in Argentina?

Well, you're in good hands. Our very own Macarena Gagliardi, a former BBC producer, is all about keeping things safe and sound. She's been through the Hostile Environment and Risk Assessment training, so you know we take health and safety seriously, following international standards to the T.

Now, when it comes to health infrastructure, especially in Buenos Aires city, we've got the Hospital Aleman, a top-notch private hospital.

As for safety, Argentina is no slouch in that department either. It's one of the safest countries around these parts. But hey, we get it - safety can vary depending on where you're at. That's why, once we have a handle on your project, we roll up our sleeves and dive into the nitty-gritty. We assess locations and logistics, and then we'll let you know what we reckon is the way to go. Your safety is our top priority, no doubt about it.
