I love my job as an AP and fixer because, in addition to meeting people and hearing their stories, it also allows me to discover incredible places in my own country.
Argentina offers a diverse array of landscapes and a unique blend of culture and nature. Buenos Aires, a lively city bustling with color and activities, provides excellent filming opportunities. The unparalleled beauty of locations stretching from Iguazu Falls and Jujuy’s salt flats in the North to the Andes Mountains and Perito Moreno Glacier in Patagonia, along with Ushuaia in the far South, makes them captivating settings for any project.
Among all these amazing places, my favorite two are Pailemán in Río Negro and Iberá in Corrientes. These destinations are truly magical, and my experiences there have been unforgettable.
We traveled to Pailemán to film a documentary about the Andean Condors and how Argentine biologist, Luis Jacome, has worked tirelessly to save one of the world’s largest birds from extinction. By combining chicks hatched in captivity with rescued condors, a total of 219 birds have been released into the wild since 1997.
It was deeply gratifying to witness firsthand the work being done to ensure these incredible birds continue to grace the skies and to understand the environmental importance of their continued presence. Seeing them soar over the sacred mountains is an experience that sends shivers down your spine.
Understanding their journey and witnessing their return to freedom and their natural habitat is profoundly moving.
But it wasn’t just the condors that captured our hearts; it was the untamed beauty of Pailemán itself, their home. The Pailemán mountains, nestled away from the chaos of the city, this sanctuary was a refuge for the senses. From their breathtaking sunrises to their star-studded skies, where the Milky Way shines brightly, it’s a sight to behold. The spectacle of shooting stars is a timeless phenomenon, matched only by the abundance of wildlife that inhabits the area. We felt small yet infinitely connected to the universe.
Before we left, we made a sacred ritual to express gratitude to the condors for allowing us to film them in their world and to bid farewell to the mountains.
This journey will forever hold a special place in my heart, a testament to the beauty of nature and the profound connections we form with it.
Another of my favorites projects was the one we traveled to The Iberá Stuary.
Los Esteros del Iberá is the birthplace of the economy of nature and rewilding in Argentina. Iberá Park is home to the largest population of strange-tailed tyrants and the second largest of marsh deer. It is also an essential refuge for endangered species such as the maned wolf, the pampas deer, grassland birds that are nearly extinct in Argentina due to agricultural activity, the caiman, and the neotropical river otter.
Due to its size and habitat quality, this conservation area is a unique opportunity for reintroducing locally extinct species. The jaguar is a key species to maintain the health and integrity of wild ecosystems and Iberá Park is the best place in the country to carry out a jaguar reintroduction project because there is plentiful prey and ideal habitat.
Going to this place was a unique experience. You connect with nature, animals and their world. One day we slept in tents, and when I woke up in the morning with the first light of day, I saw a pampas deer pass by. With the incredible landscape shimmering in the sunlight in the background, I felt like I was in a Disney movie!
We were with the organization Rewilding Argentina, interviewing them and filming their everyday work. Thanks to them, we once again have species in our country that were extinct decades ago, which are very important for the ecosystem. Seeing the passion and love they put into everything they do is something we should all see.
These are journeys that leave you deeply enriched, with a greater understanding of the animal kingdom, and a profound respect for nature.
I really enjoy embarking on a new project where nature reigns supreme and every moment is a discovery.
How can we help you with location scouting?
Our team will assess which are the best filming locations for your project. With access to an extensive database, we share our information or can conduct in-person visits to potential places.
Our scouting process involves creating a visual record, including images from different angles and lighting conditions, along with notes on filming-related challenges and positives at each location.
For distant locations that would require extensive travel, such as Ushuaia, we have excellent local collaborators.
