Since I joined Fixer Argentina in 2017 as a gimbal operator, my journey has been both challenging and rewarding. My role also included assistant and camera operator duties when working with international crews. Soon after, we embarked on our first productions with our local team, leading me to establish a new technical department within Fixer Argentina.
This department focuses on equipment selection and logistics for international projects when filmed in Argentina. A key part of our work is providing expertise and advice for the best technical production design. We assist DoPs and line producers in determining which equipment can be sourced from local rentals and what should be brought from their countries. This approach simplifies travel, eases the process of entering a not ATA carnet country as Argentina, and significantly reduces costs associated with transporting equipment abroad.
Over time, we have gained invaluable experience from the wide range of crews and projects we worked for, the evolving production models influenced by new technologies and the COVID-19 pandemic. This experience has led us to design our own gear, accomplishing the agility, quality and efficiency required by most small and medium-sized productions today, ultimately aiming for less-footprint shoots.
Gradually, we have acquired a range of high-quality gear and versatile tools, carefully selected to meet market needs and demands. Our inventory includes Sony FX6 and Sony FX3 cameras, known for their exceptional image quality and flexibility in various lighting conditions; Sony Zoom G Master lenses; Sachtler ACE camera tripods; DJI RS3 Pro gimbal; a wireless monitoring system for the director; a laptop equipped with data management software to ensure footage transfer in the safest way; and a comprehensive lighting kit with COB LEDs and flexible LEDs, all organized in a single case for easy setup when shooting.
Time is money, therefore having our own kit is a significant time savings. It allows us to respond quickly and efficiently to last minute jobs. Additionally, our compact kit package facilitates transportation either by car or by plane when traveling around Argentina.
